With Harriet Gifford.

On this five week course students will learn to paint directly from still-life using acrylic paint on paper. The emphasis will be on direct painting without preliminary drawings. Classes will be a mix of practical hands on painting and short illustrated talks about different styles of still-life to help students consider their own style and to encourage student experimentation and to try new styles.

Over the weeks students will have the opportunity to work on one long study or to choose different angles or objects to draw from for shorter pieces. Students will think and learn about a range of materials and techniques, starting with how to stretch paper for painting; how to choose paint and brushes and things to consider when setting up a still life with consideration of composition and lighting.

The course will be on Saturday afternoons from 2pm – 4pm, 30th October, 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th November. You need to be able to come along to all five sessions.

All equipment and materials, as well as tea and coffee, will be provided and the course is free although donations are welcome. Students should bring an apron or wear painting clothes as some spillage may occur.

Harriet Gifford has been a practicing artist for 30 years, with a BA in Fine Art Painting and an MA in Sound and Image.

These workshops are part of a programme of Creative Workshops the Horsebridge is launching supported by a great community of local artists and teachers.  The workshops will take place in our large, light and airy Studio and our aim is that each session will give people the confidence to try a new skill and take part in creative and enjoyable activities as part of new group.
