COMING IN 2025
Reduction lino cutting is a relief printing technique which involves cutting and printing several layers of colour from the same block of lino in order to build up an image, instead of using a separate lino plate for each colour or just sticking to one colour.
Using this printing technique with its malleable printing surface is a very graphic method of producing images that can be cut or carved to create a bold and experimental design.
During this course, you will learn how to plan your design, cut your block and produce an edition of prints. You will be using soft-cut vinyl-type lino which is very easy to cut and print from and water-based inks which are easy to clean up and dry quickly.
Rochelle will provide images for inspiration, but you are welcome to bring your own images or objects to draw from. Remember to keep it simple and colourful and keep an open mind!
Week 1: Rochelle will guide you through the fundamentals of lino printing, stylising a design for this purpose and transferring the image. By the end of the session, you will have created your design and begun cutting your single-colour linoprint.
Week 2: you can experiment with mixing or blending inks to achieve strong flat colours or an ombré effect. Rochelle will also demonstrate how to carve into your Week 1 lino piece to develop a multi-layered print.
Weeks 3 and 4: you will continue the cutting and printing process to create a four-coloured reduction print edition in many different colour combinations. During each of these 3.5-hour workshops, Rochelle will provide comprehensive guidance on creating your reduction lino prints. She will guide you through every step of the lino-cutting process, including selecting the best materials, mastering basic tool techniques, creating various marks with your tools, planning your designand transferring it to the lino, blending colours while ink rolling, and printing process. This workshop caters to both beginners and individuals with previous experience in lino-printing.
All materials, tea and biscuits will be provided.
