Cultural Acknowledgment

‘People Power’ contains artistic interpretations and references to cultures that are not the artist’s own. These elements are included with respect and an intent to engage with and honour the histories they represent. The gallery is currently working with the artist to address issues around cultural sensitivity and representation following community concerns. Clare acknowledges the importance of cultural context and encourages viewers to approach the work with thoughtful consideration.

Using mixed media, sculpture and painting Clare has developed pieces addressing subjects of individuals and communities across the globe. .

For Clare, this is about inclusivity and individuality. We are all one and at the same time completely unique. Celebrating our differences and accepting everyone for who they are is at the forefront, how people in poverty have faith and religion because it gives them hope and personal power. Women all over the world finding the inner strength to survive the patriarchy, women feeling safe, all people having a voice.

It’s revering our sacred planet, passing down stories and lessons about their culture and how they work in harmony with the earth. It’s about what is really important to our deeper selves.
