ST/art Textile Exhibition – end period poverty

East Kent community art groups and local artists
  • Opens: 26 September 2024
  • Closes: 6 October 2024
  • Where: Gallery 1, Gallery 2

ST/art Textile Exhibition was inspired by the idea of a using the sanitary towel as a basic template for a collective community textile exhibition, which could help raise awareness of period poverty and curb the use of plastic within sanitary products.

Many women and girls find the cost of sanitary products inhibitive even in relatively high-income countries like the UK,

and single-use plastic-based period products cause one of the most common forms of marine pollution.

Alongside the many individual artists and textile groups who have contributed exciting work to this project, some of the local schools and organisations that have participated include:

Canterbury College

Simon Langton Girls school

Whitstable School

Worthgate School

KRAN (Kent Refugees Action Network)

The exhibition supports the charities Bloody Good Period,
