The Colours of Expression

Francesca Howard
  • Opens: 4 December 2019
  • Closes: 17 December 2019
  • Where: Gallery 1

Colour is at the heart of this exhibition as it examines the extent to which colour reflects and affects our emotions. Living on the English coast, Francessca is fascinated by how often the sea reflects her mood back to her and so the exhibition includes a series of seascapes in expected and unexpected colours, reflecting different moods. From this develops an examination of our internal seascapes with colour-charged paintings exploring how we see ourselves in the world and the role of perceived 'positive' and 'negative' emotions in our lives. There is even a painting about opera!

Talk - Sat 7 Dec 2:30pm-4pm: 'Emotion and the Baroque'  (The Hub, Free Admission)

This illustrated talk will look at the glory of Baroque painting and sculpture. It will explore how the artists of the Baroque expressed emotion and compare this to the expression of emotion in Renaissance art.

Workshop - Sat 14 Dec 2:30-4pm: An Introduction to The Colour Potential Oracle Card Deck (Workshop 3, Free Admission)

Created by Francesca, The Colour Potential Card Deck and Handbook align colours with the positive qualities we all hold within us. The cards are designed to provide gentle guidance for when we are faced with life’s issues. The workshop will look at colour in our lives and how the card deck works. As part of the workshop, Francesca will offer readings for participants who wish to experience the cards.
