Life Stories

  • Closes: 19 September 2022
  • Where: Gallery 1

Tales of cycles of growth and decay in nature, of extraordinary journeys of survival, of the ephemeral minutiae of everyday life. All living things are embedded in a complex network of relationships, connecting them to other lives and other stories.

Catherine’s own life story weaves connections between her art practice, t’ai chi, craniosacral therapy, organic gardening, dance and writing. Her interrelationship with other lives is told here through printmaking, a year-long lockdown drawing project, collage, a dramatic large-scale site-specific installation, and spoken and written words.

She works from her studio at her home near Folkestone, where her printmaking includes etching, collagraph, monoprint, wood and lino cuts. The cycle of growth and decay is an integral part of the making process, with all the collaged work in the exhibition being made from reused and recycled materials which have accumulated in Catherine’s studio over the years, including torn up prints and printed papers rescued from previous projects.
