Collagraphy is a process where materials are fixed to paperboard, card or wood to create a plate, the plate can then be further drawn into. The plate is usually then sealed before inking and printing.

My name is Rochelle Bloom, I’ve worked as an Art teacher and printmaker for 25 years. I have amassed a number of techniques and processes, utilising low-tech, recycled elements to produce printmaking techniques that would traditionally have been less accessible. Using tetra packs to use as etching plates, discarded Perspex/glass for mono-printing, plaster and clay for casting/printing to create a range of prints.

After successfully running printmaking courses at the Horsebridge, I am excited to bring more techniques to a new group of students, interested in experimenting and developing skills and processes or for those who want to begin to access creativity through process-based skills.

The courses are run in two week blocks, learning different printmaking techniques; Drypoint, Mono-printing and Collagraph. I can support you with design ideas and inspiration or you can come with your own ideas, photographs or imagery, to apply the printmaking techniques.

Each session will last three and a half hours and we will spend two consecutive sessions on the same topic, enabling time to be spent developing an idea more thoroughly.

These sessions will encourage an understanding of these artful processes, from research to development to ultimately producing personal work that can be framed as a final piece or indeed refined and developed with ever more experimental techniques.
