Wild about Whitstable Photography competition

Can you capture the Wild World of Whitstable with a photograph?

Our natural world gives us such glories, from beautiful Maritime panoramas, stunning sunsets, dramatic landscapes, rare plants, wildflowers and incredible birds and insects. What is the one aspect of our natural world which you would like to share through a photograph?

Starting at 10am August 7th and throughout Wild about Whitstable week until 4pm 12 August you'll be able to submit your entry to the photogrpahy competition.

There will be three winners from each category who will each receive a framed print of their photograph. 
The winning photographs will also be displayed at the Horsebridge for a fortnight from the 21 August - 3 September.

WAW are delighted that international photographer Alistair Philip Wiper has agreed to judge the competition.

Alastair has received international recognition for his photographic work. His work is defined by a unique understanding of line and symmetry , colour and context. His work is regularly featured in Publications such as Wired, Vice, American and the Guardian.
He has produced several books including Unintended Beauty and The Art of the Impossible. He has exhibited at institutions such as The Royal British Institute of Architects, Musee des Arts decorative the du Design.

How to enter: 

  • The competition runs from 10 am on Monday 7th August to 4pm on Saturday 12th August. Any submissions outside this time will not be entered. 
  • Winners will be selected on Wednesday 16 August and announced shortly after.
  • Maximum of 3 entries per person.
  • We can only accept digital images in jpg/jpeg, tiff, png, heif and pdf format.
    If you are using the RAW photos on your iPhone you will need to convert the file to be able to upload.
  • Your file will need to be under 10MB and needs to be a minimum of around 1500 x 2000 pixels. While we will accept any format of photograph, winning framed prints will be cropped to 30cm x 40cm, so please consider this when selecting your composition. 
  • To see dimensions of your photo:
    • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​on a PC hover over the file in Windows Explorer and a dialog box should pop up, or select it and the information should appear in the details pane.​​​​​​
    • on a Mac click on the image in Finder (in gallery or column view) and the information should appear, or ^control/right click and select 'get info' expand the 'more info' section.
    • on an iPhone select your photo and scroll up to see dimensions.
    • on an Android this will vary depending on the device and app used, but if you have three dots in the corner, you can click this for the information.
  • We require two pieces of contact information to ensure we can contact you if required. The information you supply will not be used for any purpose other than the administration of the competition.
