For the theme of their inaugural exhibition, CKA have taken inspiration from one of Whitstable’s most eminent residents, W. Somerset Maugham’s A Writer’s Notebook. ‘The love that lasts longest…’ has stimulated Contemporary Kent Artists’ participating artists to produce a broad range of interpretations: some clear, some obscure.
They hope that beyond the aesthetic pleasures, that visitors will also be intrigued, stimulated and challenged by the complexity of the theme.
In this way they seek to provoke discussion, inviting visitors to participate in Artists’ Talks throughout the exhibition run.
Those attending the exhibition will be encouraged to vote for their favourite piece of work. We encourage exhibition goers to also attend a poetry event responding to the theme of the exhibition which takes place on Thursday 16th October.
