My Mechanical Heart by Debs Smith

Mixed media assemblage on canvas

12 x 12cm

Debs Smith

Debs is a Multi/Mixed Media Artist, who enjoys trying different techniques, styles and using different media.  Having moved from Bedfordshire to Herne Bay over 20 years ago she rediscovered her love of drawing and discovered acrylic paint!  A couple of years ago she discovered the wonderful medium of polymer resin.  The idea that she could create her own resin elements and create pieces of 3D art out of them led her down a rabbit hole she is not sure how to get out of!! Or indeed if she wants to! Creating a piece of art with some blank pieces of resin and some acrylic paint or ink can be extremely rewarding!

This piece uses both acrylic ink and hand cast resin pieces, each piece is covered in gesso and then coloured with either acrylic paint and wax or just coloured wax. Which are then adhered to each other using a heavy duty gel medium. Each 3D assemblage comes together by what elements are available and how they all fit in together.  Debs can also can often be found with pastel pencils drawing something from nature and trying to recapture all the details (usually while waiting for the glue to set on her 3D assemblages! Or preparing for her monthly Mixed Media Art Journal workshops which are held at The Horsebrige in Whitstable and The Spitfire Museum In Manston.
