Moment of Discovery brings together around thirty-eight artists from in and around Whitstable, nearly all of whom are exhibiting for the first time. The collective grew out of a shared love of painting and a belief that the ability to make art is something most people carry without ever realising it. The title says what the work is about: the moment someone discovers they can do this.
The exhibition spans a range of subjects and media, reflecting the different hands and eyes behind it rather than a single house style. What holds it together is not a theme imposed from above but a shared starting point. These are people who took up the brush and found something they did not expect.
Some work is available to purchase. Each piece carries the artist's own story alongside it, so visitors can read about the person as well as the painting.
